Trail goers invited to ‘peng-WIN’ a holiday as they waddle in Worcester

Date published: 14 August 2024

A penguin in a Hawaiian shirt and flip flops stands at The Cross in Worester. Visitors to Worcester’s summer penguin trail could win a free holiday courtesy of one of the city’s happy huddle.

‘Penguin on Holiday’, which can be found at The Cross, is one of 80 sculptures brought to the city by St Richard’s Hospice. But unlike the rest of their feathered friends, this penguin features a bonus plaque revealing the chance to win a trip to Morocco.

A special addition from penguin sponsor arrangeMY escape, the city centre travel specialist says they wanted to spread some extra joy while supporting the Worcestershire-based hospice.

Jennifer Lynch, General Manager at arrangeMY escape, said: “We’re so excited to be involved in our second art trail, supporting our friends at St Richard’s Hospice. This is very important to us as a family-run business.

“’Penguin on Holiday’ is such a relatable character, capturing that holiday vibe perfectly in his Hawaiian shirt and flip flops.  He’s bringing such fun to local people of all ages, we thought it would be brrr-illiant to offer a free holiday too. Can you imagine finding out a family trip for four to Morocco is all yours? We can’t wait to contact the lucky winner in the autumn and tell them the good news!”

The parade of penguin sculptures remains in Worcester until Sunday 15 September.

Once the trail has ended, there will be a final chance to see all 80 penguins together before the large penguins, and one special baby, are auctioned to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice.

Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “’Penguin on Holiday’ is one of our cool characters out on the trail and we’ve seen how well loved he is as visitors young and old capture selfies with him.

“Sponsors like arrangeMY escape enable us to cover the running costs of the great Waddle of Worcester and deliver a fun, free day out for local families.  We’re so grateful to all our partners and sponsors who make the trail possible.”
