17. Foregate Street Station
Worcester’s Foregate Street station bridge is a beautiful and impressive structure.
The first bridge was opened here in 1860 at the same time that Foregate Street station was opened.
The facade that adorns the siding of the bridge today was added in the early 20th century when the original structure was re-strengthened.

The emblems which flank the central motif represent the city and show respectively a shield with Worcester’s three black pears and a crenelated turret on a red and black quartered shield.
The shield showing three pears is surrounded by the city’s famous motto ‘Civitas in Bello et Pace Fidelis’ (Faithful City in Peace and War).
Around the symbol of the turret is written ‘Floreat Semper Fidelis Civitas’ meaning ‘Let the Faithful City ever flourish.’
The central motif, curiously, depicts the arms of the City of London and the City of Bristol – representing the two ends of the line and the emblem of Great Western Rail.
The panels were cast by the local founders Hardy and Padmore.
