A local radio station is to support a penguin-themed art trail arriving in Worcester next summer as a media partner.
BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester, whose studios are in the heart of the city on Hylton Road, has partnered with the great Waddle of Worcester. The station will promote the showcase alongside the trail’s other media partner, the Worcester News.
Waddle of Worcester will see 40 beautifully designed penguin sculptures displayed through city streets and public spaces for eight weeks from Monday, July 22 to Sunday, September 15 2024.
Alongside the large sculptures will be 40 chicks, decorated by schools and community groups and displayed in Crowngate Shopping Centre and city shop windows.
Rhidian Jones, editor for BBC Hereford & Worcester, said: “Our team all loved the elephants and giraffes in previous years and are proud to be the voices of the trail via the official app.
“We also know the event is an important fundraiser for St Richard’s Hospice – who do such important work in the community in challenging times for many charities.”
The large penguin sculptures will be auctioned in October 2024 to raise funds for the care that St Richard’s provides to those living with a serious progressive illness and their loved ones.
Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “It’s brilliant to have our friends at BBC Hereford & Worcester on board again this year. The Māori name for the yellow eyed penguin is ‘Hoiho’ which means ‘noise shouter’, so we’re very grateful to have the team making some noise for us.”
