Family support providers take penguin under their wing

Date published: 15 November 2023

A small specialist independent school and county fostering company are teaming up to support a county art trail so hospice organisers can keep delivering compassionate care for patients and their families.

Abigail’s Place and Pyramid Care are joining the great Waddle of Worcester by sponsoring a penguin.

One of eighty sculptures which will brighten city streets and public spaces in summer 2024, the large penguins will later be sold at auction to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

Sally Yafai, Proprietor of Abigail’s Place, said: “As a small school supporting children who have experienced early childhood trauma, loss and/or attachment disruption, we know first-hand how important it is to find the right support for loved ones that’s tailored to each individual.  So, we’re delighted to be backing St Richard’s and the amazing work it does each and every day.”

“We loved the elephant trail in 2021 and bought one of the sculptures at auction to welcome our students to school. Standing proudly by our entrance on Spetchley Road, we know many local residents like to give our ele-friend a wave each day too.”

The great Waddle of Worcester is a Wild in Art event brought to the city by St Richard’s following two previous trails supporting its care for patients with a serious progressive illness and their families.

Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “It’s wonderful to welcome everyone at Abigail’s Place and Pyramid Care to our hospice huddle after they kindly bought one of our elephants in 2021.

“One of the things we love most about our art trails is that they bring people of all ages together. We can’t wait to waddle in Worcester next summer.”
