Investment Managers back penguin auction

A firm of investment managers is backing the upcoming auction of penguin sculptures – set to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

Hawksmoor Investment Management is supporting the auction of 41 penguins, the finale to the city’s summer art trail, the great Waddle of Worcester.

St Richard’s Hospice – which has brought its third trail to the city – will raise money for its care of patients with an illness that cannot be cured and their loved ones at the auction on Thursday October 24.

Adam Martyn-Smith, Senior Investment Manager for Hawksmoor, based in Worcester, said: “Hawksmoor is delighted to be supporting St Richard’s with this important fundraising event at a time when the hospice needs funding more than ever.

“As a firm we share many of the same values and understand the importance of integrity, trust and offering a personal service which is unique to each individual.  It therefore seemed a natural fit to support a public event which strikes a chord with so many people across the county.”

Taking place at DRPG in Hartlebury, the auction will be led by auctioneer Philip Serrell, best known for appearing on TV shows such as Bargain Hunt and Flog It!

All 40 of the large penguins and one, special ‘Ice-Ickle’ chick sculpture will be auctioned – while the remaining 40 chicks will be returned to the schools and groups which decorated them.

The reserve for each sculpture is expected to start from £3,000 with all proceeds raised supporting the hospice.

Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We’re thrilled to have the support of Hawksmoor and we look forward to enjoying the auction night with the team, with bidders able to join us in person or from the comfort of their own sofas via a livestream.

“In challenging times for many UK hospices, we hope to see some competitive bidding from prospective buyers, helping us to continue to be there for patients and their loved ones when they need us.”
