The hospice team behind this summer’s eight-week penguin sculpture trail in Worcester is inviting visitors to waddle with them for a final time after the huddle heads out of the city on Sunday 15 September.
All 80 of the painted penguins from the great Waddle of Worcester will go on show together – for the first and only time – at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Friday 4 October – Sunday 6 October and again from Friday 11 October – Sunday 13 October.
The outdoor event will be the last chance to see all 40 large penguins before they are auctioned to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice, which cares for patients with an illness that cannot be cured and their loved ones across Worcestershire.
A fully reflective penguin chick displayed in Piston Distillery at Diglis Waterside & Marina, Ice-Ickle, will also be auctioned – while the remaining chicks will be returned to the schools and groups which decorated them.
Grace Stringer, Managing Director of Piston Distillery, which is sponsoring the farewell events, said: “The great Waddle of Worcester has been a wonderful way to get us all out and about this summer and has brought so much joy to trail-goers big and small.
“The farewell events are the perfect way to recapture some of that art trail magic and to support a charity which does so much for the community here in Worcestershire. We can’t wait to see to them all huddled together, including Ice-Ickle who we’ve loved looking after during the trail.”
Tickets are now available for the farewell events, with visitors able to book one-hour slots to see the penguins.
Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We’re so excited to offer this opportunity before our happy huddle leave the city for their forever homes.
“It’s going to be fantastic to see all 80 of our penguins together, plus two bonus babies which are up for grabs in our raffle and at auction. We hope to see everyone waddling with us for a final time!”
Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for children aged two to 16, while under twos go free. Family tickets for either two adults, two children or one adult, three children are available for £15. To book visit: https://waddleofworcester.co.uk/events/farewell
