Worcestershire County Cricket Club is to host the city’s penguins for a final time before they all head off to their forever homes.
The cricket club’s sponsored penguin ‘Sanctuary’ will be joined by eighty one other feathered friends for the great Waddle of Worcester farewell events.
Taking place from Friday 4 October – Sunday 6 October and again from Friday 11 October – Sunday 13 October, the outdoor events will be the first and last chance to see the whole huddle in one place.
Ashley Giles, Chief Executive of Worcestershire County Cricket Club, said: “It’s been wonderful to see everyone enjoying our penguin at The Quay this summer, just a stone’s throw from the club. We now look forward to welcoming trail goers to us to capture a picture with their favourite members of the huddle at the iconic county ground.
“We’ve long supported St Richard’s Hospice and the vital care it provides to patients and their loved ones all over the county. We hope the farewell events will be a huge success and raise much-needed funds for this much-loved local charity.”
Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We know many won’t be quite ready to say goodbye to our happy huddle when they leave the city this Sunday evening, so we’re excited to be able to offer farewell events next month.
“It’s going to be fantastic to see all 80 of our penguins together, plus two bonus babies which are up for grabs in our raffle and at auction. We hope to see everyone waddling with us for a final time!”
Tickets are now available for the farewell events, which are sponsored by Piston Distillery.
Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for children aged two to 16, while under twos go free. Family tickets for either two adults, two children or one adult, three children are available for £15. To book visit: https://waddleofworcester.co.uk/events/farewell
Proceeds from the farewell events will support the free care and support that St Richard’s Hospice provides to local patients and their families.
