Organisers of the great Waddle of Worcester art trail have introduced a shiny new nestling to its huddle of 80 penguins.
‘Ice-Ickle’ joins 40 other baby penguins on display in city centre businesses. But unlike his fellow chicks this new sculpture will be available for auction at the end of the event alongside 40 giant feathered friends.
Hosted by Piston Distillery at Diglis Waterside & Marina, anyone popping in to meet Ice-Ickle can pick up a free, limited edition sticker before the trail ends on 15 September.
Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We’re so excited to introduce the coolest little fella on the trail. Fully reflective – from beak to foot – this penguin represents the work of the St Richard’s Hospice Family Support Team who use reflection to support loved ones, foster insight and empower families during their grief journey.
“Ice-Ickle is the only baby penguin which will be up for auction this October. We hope bidders will dig deep to support St Richard’s and secure this little nestling a forever home.”
The parade of penguin sculptures remains in Worcester until Sunday 15 September. Once the trail has ended, there will be a final chance to see the full huddle together at a Farewell Event before 41 penguins, including ‘Ice-Ickle’, are auctioned for St Richard’s.
In honour of their new penguin pal, Piston Distillery is creating a brand new flavoured ice cream. With every scoop bought of ‘Vanilla + Blue Ripple Swirl with Popping Candy’, Piston will donate to St Richard’s Hospice. The company has also created a Piston Penguin Vodka and will donate to the hospice each time a bottle is sold.
Grace Stringer, Managing Director of Piston Distillery, said: “When we heard Ice-Ickle was looking for a place to stand proud before being auctioned, we knew we must take him under our wing and look after him. We’ve even created a new ice cream to celebrate his arrival, the ice cream has a special twist with popping candy for that icy crunch! We have also hand painted penguins onto our vodka bottles too and donations will be made with each purchase.
“Anyone popping along to meet Ice-Ickle can pick up their free sticker here at Piston Distillery from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday and from 10.30-5pm at weekends.”
Ice-Ickle stickers will be available from Tuesday 20 August.
