Peng-WIN a penguin in hospice raffle!

Date published: 25 September 2024

Organisers of this summer’s penguin trail in Worcester are offering one of the sculptures as a prize in its charity raffle.

‘Hoiho’ the penguin chick is up for grabs in the St Richard’s Hospice draw alongside a night in a hippo lodge and a VIP penguin experience at West Midlands Safari Park.  The raffle is raising funds for the hospice’s care of patients with an illness that cannot be cured and their loved ones across Worcestershire.

Laura Clarke, campaigns fundraiser for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “The county took our happy huddle into their hearts this summer so we’re excited to give people the chance to take super cute penguin chick, Hoiho, home.

“Our friends at West Midlands Safari Park have also generously donated some absolutely brrr-illiant prizes, including an overnight lodge stay. It will be so exciting to contact the lucky winners when we draw the winning tickets on 1st November.”

Tickets cost £1 per entry and are available at St Richard’s Hospice charity shops, at upcoming penguin farewell events in October and online at: https://waddleofworcester.co.uk/events/raffle/ The raffle closes on Friday, 25 October and will be drawn on Friday, 1 November 2024 at St Richard’s Hospice.

Chris Kelly, Managing Director of West Midlands Safari Park, said: “As a very proud sponsor of one of the hospice’s penguin sculptures this summer, we’re delighted to have offered up two unique experiences here at the park as raffle prizes.

“Both our hippo lodge overnight stays and VIP penguin experience offer an up close and personal wildlife experience like no other.  We look forward to welcoming the lucky winners.”

The great Waddle of Worcester art trail brightened city streets and public spaces from 22 July until 15 September.

All 82 painted penguins will go on show together – for the first and only time – at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Friday 4 October – Sunday 6 October and again from Friday 11 October – Sunday 13 October. Tickets are available online at: https://waddleofworcester.co.uk/events/farewell/.  Farewell events are kindly sponsored by Piston Distillery.

After this 40 large penguins, and one special baby, will be auctioned to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice while the remaining penguin chicks will return to their forever homes with the schools and community groups which painted them. The penguin auction is kindly sponsored by Hawksmoor Investment Management.
