Other habitats found here include lowland hay meadow; open water – ditches and ponds; wet grassland and veteran oak, willow and ash trees. It is a remnant survival of historic flood meadows that have been carefully managed to produce hay and provide summer grazing. This traditional management continues today allowing bird, flower, insect and mammal inhabitants to thrive.

It is highly likely that otters use the ditches on Chapter Meadows, particularly when the river is in flood. Other species of importance found here include plants such as pale flax, ragged robin, gypsywort, marsh horsetail, marsh foxtail, greater yellow-cress and wood club-rush.

Chapter Meadows provides foraging and nesting opportunities for a variety of birds including kestrel, little owl and tawny owl. If you are lucky you may glimpse a flash of electric blue as a kingfisher darts along the ditch system!
