Description

Starlit Journey’ is inspired by the vastness of the cosmos. This design transforms the black areas of a penguin into a mesmerising galaxy, creating a celestial spectre that’s both charming and awe-inspiring. The small huddle of penguins on the stomach of the design represents this species’ resilience, mirroring their ability to thrive in harsh climates. The galaxy motif symbolises the unknown, reflecting the penguin’s adventurous spirit. This design is not just an artistic representation, but a tribute to the intriguing life of penguins and the mysteries of our universe.

Anne’s artistic vision is to create awareness about the connection between humans and wildlife. She uses her art to portray the personality and behaviour of animals, and to invite the viewer to reflect on their own actions and feelings towards them. She experiments with different artistic styles and techniques, choosing the most suitable one to communicate a particular message.

Despite using a variety of artistic approaches her creative process remains consistent, driven by a passion for raising awareness of endangered species and the issues that threaten their existence.

Through her work, Anne aims to inspire a greater appreciation and respect for wildlife, while also expanding her own artistic abilities. Ultimately, her goal is to create art that resonates with animal lovers and highlights the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations.

In 2022 a conservation and engagement project was completed to unlock the River Severn for wildlife and people. A once in a lifetime opportunity has restored connectivity for migratory fish on the UK’s longest river.

The Unlocking the Severn project was inspired by one of the UK’s rarest fish. Hundreds of thousands of twaite shad used to migrate up the River Severn to reach their natural spawning grounds. Weirs installed in the mid-19th century blocked this annual migration.

Unlocking the Severn provides fish passage at six barriers on the River Severn and its River Teme tributary. The weir at Diglis was the first insurmountable barrier that shad encountered on their migration route. A large, deep-vertical-slot fish pass has been built. At the time of construction, it was the largest fish pass of its kind in England and Wales. 158 miles of river habitat have been restored benefitting a host of important fish species.

The Diglis fish pass breaks the big step in the river’s water level at Diglis weir into a series of smaller, more manageable steps. Fish including twaite shad, eel and salmon can now move up and down the river for feeding, safety, shelter and to spawn. Underwater viewing windows film migrating fish for scientific monitoring and give visitors an opportunity to glimpse wild fish swimming by.
