Tiaki is a Māori word meaning to care for people and places. Our penguin is a sentinel of the ocean. His jacket shows koru spirals, based on a fern frond, symbolising new life, strength and peace. Tiaki’s body carries a strong message about our precious ocean. The healthy, happy side is juxtaposed with the polluted and dying side, which should be an inspiration to behave and live responsibly!
